Community Design

Consistent with the 2010 Master Plan, we are proposing that The Belward Campus of The Johns Hopkins University include plenty of open space including a public park, a preserve, walking trails, bike paths, retail options and cafes for the community’s enjoyment.

Proposed new Muddy Branch Park will take up nine acres in its northern portion and run along the length of Muddy Branch Road north of the newly extended Belward Campus Drive.  It will be developed in conjunction with the County's park process and community feedback.

Park features could include:

  • Large terraced lawn areas in the heart of the park for group activities including youth sports and concerts

  • Pathways and trails for recreation, as well as areas that provide moments of quiet respite

Mission Hills Preserve, a new, heavily landscaped and forested 200-foot buffer between the Mission Hills community and the north portion of the Belward property

Potential Retail Pavilion located in the heart of the campus, featuring retail space and cafes open to the public

Open spaces and public amenities throughout the center

  • Tree-lined sidewalks

  • Walking paths

  • Bikeways

  • Cafes and retail venues
